Chess Organizations

CalChess

CalChess is the home of the Northern California Chess Association, conducting chess competitions and exhibitions throughout Northern California. CalChess cooperates with local chess clubs, schools, the public and other groups to promote and develop chess instruction and play.

United States Chess Federation

The US Chess Federation is the official sanctioning body for over the board tournament play in the US. With over 90,000 members, they offer something for every player, from beginner to Grandmaster. In addition to rating tournaments, the USCF supports and promotes chess activities throughout the US, and publishes an award-winning national magazine, Chess Life.

Southern California Chess Federation

The Southern California Chess Federation (SCCF) is the affiliate organization recognized by the USCF, for the Southern California area

FIDE

Founded in Paris on 20 July 1924, the World Chess Federation (Federation Internationale des Echecs, known as FIDE from its French acronym) is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the supreme body, responsible for the organization of chess and its championships at global and continental levels.

San Francisco's famous chess club, open 7 days a week for casual chess, as well as regularly scheduled classes/lectures and tournaments. Site includes a large chess library, and tournament archive.

The most popular place to play chess on-line. You can observe games and play unrated for free, and there is also a subscription option available.

University of Pittsburgh Chess Site

Possibly the biggest collection of games and downloadable chess stuff on the Internet, including openings, players, events, and more.

The Week In Chess

Every top flight game from around the world.  The best place for chess news and tournament results (including gamescores), and a few columnists.

Armenian Chess

The official site of the Armenian Chess Federation, and "Chess in Armenia" website.

Burlingame, CA Chess Club

The Burlingame Chess Club meets every Thursday evening. Site includes schedule of events and  tournament results.

The Sacramento Chess Club meets every Wednesday evening in mid-town Sacramento - everyone of all ages and playing strength is welcome! The site includes a newsletter, schedule of events, and tournament results.
